CES에서 새로운 혁명을 예고한 위딩스(Withings announces a new revolution at CES2024)

CTA, the producer of CES, the world's largest IT innovation show, has organized a Digital Health Summit at CES 2024 that will focus on digital health companies and technologies, and highlight companies to watch. According to CTA, more than 130,000 people are expected to attend CES 2024.

Withings, which CTA named one of the companies to watch, has been called a global leader in connected health devices since it developed the first smart scale in 2009.

It has created and delivered clinical smart medical devices used by millions in the global market, including smart scales, hybrid watches, smart blood pressure monitors, smart slips, urine analyzers, and more;

It has won many innovation awards. While they won't be selling any products at the 2024 event, the smart digital devices that Withings is introducing are worth paying attention to. At the 2023 event, Withings introduced a urine test called U-scan, which caught the eye of media around the world. They tweeted that it would bring a new revolution to CES in 2024;

Experts predicted that Withings will introduce a new type of health measurement device powered by AI.

Withings  is a French consumer electronics company headquartered in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France. It also has offices in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, and Hong Kong, and distributes its products worldwide.

Withings is known for design and innovation in connected devices, such as the first Wi-Fi scale on the market (introduced in 2009), an FDA-cleared blood pressure monitor, a smart sleep system, and a line of automatic activity tracking watches. It also provides B2B services for healthcare providers and researchers.

Withings was purchased by Finnish company Nokia on 26 April 2016 and became a division of Nokia known as Nokia Health. The Withings brand continued to be used until June 2017, when it was replaced by the Nokia brand. In May 2018, Éric Carreel, Withings' founder, finalized a deal to regain control and the company became independent again, under the Withings name.

세계 최대 IT혁신 전시회 CES를 주관하는 CTA는 이번 CES2024행사에서 디지털 헬스의 기업과 기술에 집중하는 ‘디지털 헬스 서밋(Digital Health Summit)’을 기획하며 주목해야 할 기업들도 소개했다. CTA에 따르면 2024년 CES에는 13만 명이 이상이 참가할 것으로 예상된다.

CTA가 주목해야 할 기업 중 하나로 꼽은 위딩스(Withings)는 2009년 최초의 스마트 체중계를 개발한 이래 커넥티드 헬스 디바이스 분야의 글로벌 리더로 불려왔다.  

스마트 저울, 하이브리드 와치, 스마트 혈압 측정 모니터, 스마트 슬립, 소변 분석기 등을 포함 글로벌 시장에 수백만이 사용하는 임상 스마트 의료 기기를 만들어 제공했다.

이를 통해 많은 혁신 상도 받았다. 2024년 행사에서도 당장 판매될 제품은 아니지만 위딩스가 소개하는 스마트 디지털 디바이스들은 많은 주목을 할 필요가 있다. 2023년 행사에서 위딩스는 U스캔이라 소변 검사기를 내놔 전세계 언론들의 눈을 사로 잡았다.

U스캔은 변기 내부에 장착할 수 있도록 설계된 소변 분석 센서다.  소변을 통해 사용자의 평소 건강 상태를 체크하고 대응할 수 있다. 건강에 직접적인 영향을 주는 케톤, 비타민 C 수치, 수분 구성 및 산성도를 측정할 수 있는 셈이다.

2024년 위딩스는 구체적으로 어떤 작품을 소개할 지 공개하지 않았다. 그러나 위딩스는 2023년 12월 22일 트윗에서 ‘혁명의 새벽이 임박했다(the dawn of our next revolution is imminent)’고 말하는 등 CES2024에서도 혁신적인 제품을 내놓을 것을 예고했다.

한편, 위딩스는 프랑스 레몰로에 본사를 뒤고 있는 소비자 가전 기업이다. 미국 보스턴과 홍콩에서 사무실을 두고 전세계로 제품을 유통한다. 2009년 인터넷에 연동된 스마트 저울을 개발에 큰 화제를 모았다. FDA승인 혈압 측정 모니터, 스마트 수면 시스템 두등을 공급한다.

헬스 케어 사업자와 보험사 등 B2B서비스도 하고 있다. 위딩스는 2016년 휴대전화 제조사 노키아에 인수돼 ‘노키아 헬스(Nokia Health)’가 되기도 했다. 하지만 2018년 노키아 브랜드에서 독립했고 2018년 5월 위딩스 창업주 에릭 카렐( Éric Carreel)이 경영권을 되찾기 위고 위딩스라는 이름으로 다시 독립했다.
